Drug and alcohol use is one of the most serious threats to maritime safety. International maritime regulations and many flag states require regular drug and alcohol screening on vessels. D&A (Drug & Alcohol) tests organized through ship agents in Turkey are conducted in accordance with international standards. Marine Med Assistance collaborates with certified laboratories to provide results as internationally valid reports. Test types include: urine test (most common), breath alcohol test, blood test, and hair follicle test. Each has different detection windows and sensitivity levels. Ship agents should select the appropriate test type based on flag state and P&I club requirements. The D&A testing process at Turkish ports: the ship agent submits the request, crew members are directed to a partnered healthcare facility, samples are collected by certified medical personnel and sent to an accredited laboratory. Rapid screening results are available the same day, detailed laboratory results within 48-72 hours. In case of a positive result, the ship agent and P&I club are immediately notified. If the crew member needs to leave the vessel, accommodation and transportation arrangements are also coordinated by us. Random testing programs are also becoming increasingly common. Many shipping companies request unannounced testing for deterrence purposes. We can implement these programs across all Turkish ports.
